Explosions reported in Iranian city of Ahvaz amid US-Israeli attacks
Ahvaz hit by four blasts with no casualties reported so far, according to local report
ISTANBUL
Four powerful explosions were reported early Wednesday in Iran’s southwestern city of Ahvaz amid US-Israeli attacks, according to Iranian media.
Fars News Agency cited Valiollah Hayati, the deputy governor for security affairs in Khuzestan province, as saying that “four intense explosions” occurred in the eastern part of Ahvaz.
Hayati said no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.
Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province, lies near Iran’s border with Iraq.
The US and Israel have been carrying out airstrikes on Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people so far, according to Iranian authorities.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
At least 13 US service members have been killed since the war began, according to official US figures.
The conflict has also driven up energy prices and disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil chokepoint through which about 20% of global supply passes each day.
