2 people injured by Israeli fire during cross-border raid in southern Syria
Israeli forces raid Quneitra towns with military vehicles, set up military checkpoint, according to local media
DAMASCUS / ISTANBUL
Two people were injured by Israeli gunfire in the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria on Tuesday, according to local media.
The state-run TV channel Alikhbariya reported that Israeli forces opened fire toward civilians at a military checkpoint east of Khan Arnabeh town in the Quneitra countryside.
The injured civilians were transferred to Golan National Hospital for medical attention.
Earlier on Tuesday, a two-vehicle Israeli patrol advanced toward the towns of Jaba and Khan Arnabeh and set up a military checkpoint on a road linking the towns, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army or Syrian authorities on the media reports.
Syrian government data shows that since December 2024, Israel has carried out over 1,000 airstrikes on Syria and more than 400 cross-border raids into the southern provinces.
After the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone, a move that violated a 1974 agreement with Syria.
