Türkiye's crude steel production up 5.8% year-on-year in January

ISTANBUL

Türkiye's crude steel production increased by 5.8% in January compared to the same month last year, reaching 3.4 million tons.

The Turkish Steel Producers Association (TCUD) released a statement on Thursday on steel production, consumption, and foreign trade data for January; final product consumption in that month decreased by 1.7%, reaching 3.5 million tons.

It also stated that in January 2026, steel product exports decreased by 18.4% compared to the same month last year in terms of volume to 911,800 tons and by 21.1% in terms of value to $600 million.

The statement pointed out that in January, steel product imports decreased by 26.1% in terms of volume to 1.3 million tons and by 26.5% in terms of value to $879.4 million on an annual basis.

Global crude steel production declined by 6.5% compared to the same month last year, falling to 147.3 million tons.

In the same month, China's crude steel production decreased by 13.9%, reaching 75.3 million tons.
