Türkiye's flag carrier Turkish Airlines announced Friday the purchase of 225 Boeing aircraft, consisting of 75 orders for the B787-9 and B787-10 models, and 150 for the 737-8 and 737-10 MAX models.
The B787-9 and B787-10 orders include 50 firm and 25 optional aircraft, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2034, according to a statement posted on Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform.
"Negotiations with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace regarding the procurement of engines, spare engines, and engine maintenance services for these aircraft are ongoing," Turkish Airlines said in the statement.
The airline also said it has finalized negotiations with Boeing for the purchase of 150 737-8 and 737-10 MAX aircraft, including 100 firm and 50 optional orders.
"Subject to the successful conclusion of ongoing discussions with engine manufacturer CFM International, orders for the 737-8/10 MAX aircraft will also be placed," it added.
Turkish Airlines stated that with these purchases, it aims to transition its entire fleet to new-generation aircraft by 2035, increasing operational efficiency and supporting an average annual growth rate of around 6%.
The deal was confirmed on Thursday by US Ambassador to Türkiye Tom Barrack during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to the White House.
Last week, Turkish Airlines said talks with Boeing were still ongoing regarding a potential deal.
“This is an issue we have been discussing with Boeing for a long time, but no definitive decision has been reached yet,” said the airline's Communications Senior Vice President Yahya Ustun.
Boeing and Turkish Airlines reached a deal last year for an order for four 777 freighters to strengthen the national flag carrier's position in the global air cargo market.
Another Turkish airline, Pegasus, also ordered 200 Boeing aircraft last year.
