Trump says he will decide on Fed governor’s replacement by end of week
President says there are 'a couple of candidates' for post
WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he will name a replacement for Federal Reserve Governor Adriana Kugler by the end of the week.
"I'll be making that decision before the end of the week," Trump told reporters.
There are "a couple of candidates" for the post, he said.
"We've narrowed it to a couple of candidates. And we've also, we're looking at the Fed chair, and that's down to four people right now," he added.
Kugler submitted her resignation Friday, effective Aug. 8, according to a statement from the Fed. She will return to her previous post as a professor at Georgetown University in the fall.
Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said in a statement that he appreciated Kugler's service on the Board and wished her "very well" in her future endeavors.
"She brought impressive experience and academic insights to her work on the Board," he added.
