YPG/SDF terror organization using civilians as ‘human shields,’ says Syrian Army
- Army says it began operation against YPG/SDF after all deadlines granted to group to withdraw from area expired
ISTANBUL/ALEPPO, Syria
The Syrian Defense Ministry announced that operations in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo are being carried out slowly and carefully because the YPG/SDF terror organization is using civilians as “human shields,” according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The ministry said in a statement that YPG/SDF is using the tactic against military operations in the Maqsoud district, and therefore, the army is conducting missions “slowly and with extreme caution” to prevent harm to residents.
The statement added that during search operations, some heavy weapons belonging to the terror group were seized.
Meanwhile, according to an Anadolu correspondent in the field, clashes between army forces and terror elements are continuing.
Syrian forces were reported to have taken control of numerous points belonging to the terror organization in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood.
The Syrian Army said late Friday it began a military operation in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo against the YPG/SDF after all deadlines granted to the group to withdraw from the area expired.
