Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said Friday that he will propose a plan to end famine in Gaza and increase pressure on Israel at a meeting of European ministers in Copenhagen.

The EU’s foreign and defense ministers are meeting Friday to discuss support for Ukraine.

Albares said Spain has also requested that Gaza, where Israeli military offensive since October 2023 has killed more than 63,000 people and led to starvation deaths, be included on the agenda.

“We have to do everything possible to stop this war,” he said in a video posted on social media. “That’s why I will propose a plan for the EU to break the famine created by Israel – which is threatening the lives of thousands of Gazans, including boys, girls and babies.”

Spain will also call for the EU to sanction “all those who want to ruin the two-state solution.”

Albares said it is imperative to halt all EU arms sales to Israel and increase financial support for the Palestinian Authority.

“In the weeks to come, Europe’s soul is at stake, as well as its interests and values,” he said. “That’s why Spain will push the EU to use its influence in the world to support peace and humanity in both Gaza and Ukraine.”
