At least six people were killed and 37 injured on a Ukrainian missile attack on Russia's border region of Bryansk.

Bryansk Gov. Alexander Bogomaz said on Telegram that he listened to reports by local emergency officials after reporting earlier that his region's administrative center was hit in a missile strike by Ukraine.

"All (of those injured) were taken to the Bryansk Regional Hospital, where they are receiving medical care," said Bogomaz, defining the attack as a "terrorist act."

He said earlier that measures are being taken to “localize and eliminate the consequences” of the attack, later warning about smoke in Bryansk’s Sovietsky district.

The regional prosecutor's office said separately on Russian messenger app Max that those injured in the strike are receiving medical assistance.

In remarks to journalists during a news briefing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that his military launched an attack in the region.

“While I was answering you, Commander-in-Chief (Oleksandr) Syrskyi called me and told me about the successful operation that had just been carried out. The Bryansk plant was hit,” Zelenskyy was quoted by Ukrainian media outlets, including state news agency Ukrinform, but gave no additional details.

Separately, Ukraine's General Staff claimed on Telegram that it struck the Kremniy El microelectronics factory in the missile strike.

"The target was hit and significant damage to production facilities was recorded," it said, noting it hit the factory using long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles.

Russian authorities have yet to comment on the statement.
