OpenAI, known for its flagship product ChatGPT, unveiled on Tuesday an artificial intelligence-powered web browser to challenge competitors like Google.

The browser, ChatGPT Atlas, was made available on Apple's macOS operating system and will be launched soon on Windows, iOS, and Android. A statement by OpenAI described it as the "browser with ChatGPT built in."

"A browser built with ChatGPT takes us closer to a true super-assistant that understands your world and helps you achieve your goals," the press release on the company's website said.

"With Atlas, ChatGPT can come with you anywhere across the web—helping you in the window right where you are, understanding what you’re trying to do, and completing tasks for you, all without copying and pasting or leaving the page. Your ChatGPT memory is built in, so conversations can draw on past chats and details to help you get new things done."

The browser is available for Free, Plus, Pro, and Go users of ChatGPT.

The statement said ChatGPT can also work in Atlas using agent mode, "with improvements that make it faster and more useful by working with your browsing context." Agent mode in Atlas is available in preview for Plus, Pro, and Business users.

Earlier this month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said ChatGPT had reached 800 million weekly active users, up from 400 million in February.
