US-based artificial intelligence giant OpenAI announced on Monday a collaboration with chip firm Broadcom to produce and deploy its own 10 gigawatt AI accelerators.

"OpenAI will design the accelerators and systems, which will be developed and deployed in partnership with Broadcom. By designing its own chips and systems, OpenAI can embed what it’s learned from developing frontier models and products directly into the hardware, unlocking new levels of capability and intelligence," the company said in a statement.

Broadcom plans to begin installing racks of AI accelerators and network systems in the second half of 2026 and complete them by the end of 2029.

The statement said OpenAI has reached more than 800 million weekly active users, and that this collaboration will help the company advance its mission to "ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity."

“Developing our own accelerators adds to the broader ecosystem of partners all building the capacity required to push the frontier of AI to provide benefits to all humanity," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said.

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan said "OpenAI has been in the forefront of the AI revolution since the ChatGPT moment, and we are thrilled to co-develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of next generation accelerators and network systems to pave the way for the future of AI."

OpenAI added Broadcom to the list of chip companies that it has collaborated recently. The list had included AMD, Oracle and Nvidia.

Over the last three weeks, OpenAI has announced around 33 gigawatts of computing commitments through collaborations with AMD, Broadcom, Oracle, and Nvidia.
