Ontario Premier Doug Ford blamed US President Donald Trump on Wednesday for endangering Canada's economic stability following a three-day gathering in Muskoka with other premiers.
"Trump himself is acting like the enemy," Ford told reporters, expressing deep mistrust toward the president.
"I don't trust President Trump as far as I can throw him," he added. "He constantly changes his mind. You just don't know who you’re dealing with."
The meeting, hosted by Ford in Huntsville, Ontario, addressed various domestic priorities such as health care and immigration.
But the looming threat of a renewed trade war dominated discussions.
New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt said after the gathering that Trump's threats have reshaped the tone of interprovincial collaboration.
"We can walk and chew gum at the same time," she said, adding that the US president's "actions have meant we've been meeting a lot more than ever before."
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said: "I’m watching Truth Social along with everyone else, because things could change in five minutes."
While disappointed by the delay in renegotiating the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), Smith said a sectoral deal by Aug. 1 "would be a win."
