Journalists are preparing for field challenges as part of the 28th edition of war journalism training program jointly organized by Anadolu, Turkish Police Academy, and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

A total of 24 trainees are participating in this term, including nine Anadolu staffers, and journalists from Djibouti, Tunisia, Senegal, Niger, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Chad, and Guinea.

Through both theoretical and practical sessions, journalists are being trained on how to operate under challenging conditions such as wars, fires, floods, and earthquakes.

During the first two days, experts provided instruction on “war theory and terminology,” “protection against disinformation,” “laws of war,” “naval operations,” and “air operations,” as well as first aid training.

On the third day, at the Police Academy’s Anittepe campus in Ankara, journalists attended sessions on “technology and information security in emergencies,” “African geopolitics,” and “media management and broadcasting principles during extraordinary situations.”

The training then continued at the Police Academy’s Golbasi campus with field exercises.

Participants were taught how to act during interventions involving pressurized water, tear gas, and smoke grenades, and received hands-on training on public events, the use of bulletproof gear, and gas masks in order to help them stay prepared for real-life scenarios.

The course began on Monday and will run through Nov. 14.
