RAMALLAH, Palestine

Israeli forces have detained 142 Palestinian women and children during their ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, including nursing infants and the elderly, two organizations announced Sunday.

The information was disclosed in a joint statement issued by the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society and the Palestinian Authority Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.

The detainees are being held at several incarceration facilities, including Al-Damon and Hasharon prisons.

Israeli authorities have not commented yet on the statement.

Palestinian civil society organizations have accused Israel of committing crimes against prisoners in Ofer Prison, refusing to disclose information about their number, fate or conditions.

Israel resumed its military offensive on the Gaza Strip on Dec. 1 after the end of a weeklong humanitarian pause with the Palestinian group Hamas.

Nearly 18,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 49,229 others injured in relentless air and ground attacks on the enclave since Oct. 7 following a cross-border attack by Hamas.

The Israeli death toll in the Hamas attack stood at 1,200, according to official figures.
