Greek's extreme heat wave prompts temporary closure of Athens' Acropolis

ATHENS

The extreme heat wave that has been scorching Greece on Tuesday prompted the temporary closure of the Acropolis in Athens, the country’s most iconic historical site.

As the temperature reached 40C (104F), the Acropolis closed to visits from 1 to 5 pm under a decision by Athens’ antiquities authority.

The Labor Ministry also extended a work stoppage for outdoor manual laborers and food delivery services for a second day for most part of the country, including northern and central Greece as well as many islands.

The heat wave which began on Monday is expected to ease starting Thursday.
