A total of 371,644 people have been relocated across China’s southern Guangdong province amid severe weather, according to state-run media.

Chinese authorities issued dual red alerts Tuesday for storm surges and high waves as Super Typhoon Ragasa moved closer to South China’s coast, Xinhua News reported.

The typhoon entered the South China Sea late Monday and is expected to move northwest at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour (12 miles per hour). It is expected to make landfall along the central or western coastal areas of the province within 24 hours.

According to the provincial meteorological observatory, the typhoon will land in the coastal areas from Zhuhai City to Xuwen County on Wednesday, packing winds of 40-55 meters (131-180 feet) per second.

Chinese authorities on Tuesday allocated nearly 60,000 items from central disaster relief supplies to Guangdong. The aid package comprises tents, folding beds, summer quilts, emergency lighting, and family emergency kits.

China’s National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center warned that coastal waters off Guangdong province will be hit by waves 4-7 m (13-23 ft) high under a red wave warning, according to the Global Times report earlier today.

The center also forecasted extremely rough to phenomenal seas of 8-13 m (26-42 ft) in the northern part of the South China Sea and 4-6 meters (13-19 feet) in the southern Taiwan Straits and Bashi Channel.

Coastal waters of southern Fujian, northern Fujian, southern Zhejiang, and eastern Hainan are under lower-level warnings.

Authorities in Guangdong have suspended work, classes, transport, and business operations in 10 cities.

Hong Kong and Macao on Tuesday afternoon issued No. 8 tropical cyclone signal for super typhoon Ragasa, the third-highest warning under their weather system.

The Philippines and Taiwan also suspended classes and work at government offices in some provinces Monday.

A total of six people were injured and 7,631 have been displaced in Taiwan due to the typhoon as the nationwide land warning was lifted Tuesday, Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Center said, according to Focus Taiwan.

At least 75 people were trapped and two others went missing after floodwaters from the Matai'an Creek barrier lake on Tuesday afternoon swept through Guangfu Township in eastern Taiwan’s Hualien county, with search and rescue operations underway.

The surge also destroyed the Matai'an Creek Bridge and flooded Taiwan Railways' Guangfu Station, according to the Hualien County Fire Bureau.

Separately, one person was killed, while six remain missing in the Philippines after a fishing boat capsized on Monday while seeking shelter amid strong waves triggered by the typhoon, according to the Philippine News Agency.

However, according to the Filipino media, Typhoon Ragasa is now closer to leaving the Philippines' area of responsibility and moving toward southern China.
