Bahrain says fire erupted after Iranian attack on Maameer area

ISTANBUL

Bahrain's National Communication Centre said a fire erupted following an Iranian attack that targeted a facility in the Maameer area south of the capital Manama, Bahraini media reported on Monday.

Citing the center, Bahrain News Agency reported the fire caused material damage, but no injuries or deaths occurred, adding that the authorities were conducting firefighting operations.

Maameer, a village in Bahrain, is known for its industrial area, which consists of the Bahrain Petroleum Company refinery and a large number of factories and production units.

The development came as regional tensions have escalated since Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran that has killed more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
