The presidents of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan discussed the Middle Corridor from China to the EU via the Caucasus and Türkiye, the Kazakh president's office said on Tuesday.

The transport corridor is intended to deliver goods as quickly as possible from China through the territories of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye to Europe, circumventing Russia. It uses railway tracks and ferry crossings.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev, at the meeting in Astana, were briefed that cargo shipments from China to Azerbaijan are increasing, and according to the plan freight flows in the transport corridor will triple by 2030.

Earlier, it had been announced that Aliyev and Tokayev would discuss oil supplies through their territories to Europe. Specifically, they are expected to talk about the oil route from Baku through Tbilisi to the Turkish city of Ceyhan.
