KHARTOUM, Sudan

At least one person was killed and eight others were wounded in a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a hospital in the city of Kadugli in Sudan’s South Kordofan state, a medical group said Wednesday.

The attack targeted the Military Medical Corps Hospital in the city, the Sudan Doctors Network said in a statement.

“For the second consecutive day, the RSF and SPLM-N have continued to target medical facilities and residential neighborhoods inside Kadugli after the army lifted a siege on the city and began opening a humanitarian corridor to allow in supplies,” the network said.

It said the hospital was the second medical facility attacked in less than 48 hours, adding that the hospital has been providing services to patients and residents after about 50% of the city’s medical facilities were knocked out of service due to RSF shelling and siege.

The group warned that continued attacks on medical facilities and civilian neighborhoods “constitute a clear violation of international law, which prohibits attacks on civilian sites and civilian gathering areas.”

Late Tuesday, the network said 15 people, including seven children, were killed after drones belonging to the RSF targeted civilian neighborhoods and a health center in Kadugli.

The RSF did not comment on the report.

The rebel group has faced repeated accusations by the Sudanese authorities and regional and international organizations of targeting civilians and committing violations against them.

On Tuesday, Sudan’s Sovereignty Council chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced that the army had lifted the RSF siege on Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan state.

The RSF and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N), had imposed the siege since the early months of the war that broke out with the army in 2023.

Fierce fighting has gripped the three Kordofan states, North, West and South, since October 2025, forcing tens of thousands of civilians to flee.

Of Sudan’s 18 states, the RSF controls all five states in the western Darfur region, except for parts of North Darfur that remain under army control. The army holds most areas of the remaining 13 states across the south, north, east and center of the country, including the capital, Khartoum.

The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted in April 2023, has killed thousands of people and displaced millions.
