SOFIA (AA) - Students of Sofia Sveti Kliment Ohridski University, the oldest Bulgarian academic institution, have ended their occupation of the university building.
Thousands of students had been holding protests for nearly three weeks to demand the government's resignation due to nepotism and corruption in the country.
However, the students stepped back after they had obstructed education activities at the university. If the students' occupation attempt has lasted a little longer, all courses in the academic year would have been cancelled and scholarships cut according to university regulations.
The protestors said they would not quit demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Plamen Vasilev Oresharski's government, as well as asking for the repeal of parliament and an early election.
Meanwhile, a rally was declared outside the parliamentary on November 20.
In addition, the university president announced that the three-week education disruption resulting from the protests would be compensated until the end of the year.
