ISLAMABAD
Sixteen people were drowned in Pakistan's northwestern tourist Swat valley on Tuesday when a truck carrying nomadic families fell into the Swat River, police said.
The incident took place some 350 kilometers north of capital Islamabad in the scenic Kalam town, famous for its snow-capped mountains and skiing slopes.
"Sixteen bodies have so far been recovered, while rescue workers continue to search for more as there is no confirmation on the number of passengers riding on the truck", Sher Akbar Khan, the district police chief told reporters.
So far eight injured passengers have been rescued, he added.
