Jordan has reported a fresh fatality from the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), commonly known as coronavirus, a medical source said Tuesday.
A Jordanian technician succumbed to the virus, the source told Anadolu Agency.
The latest fatality brings to four the number of deaths from the virus in the Hashemite Kingdom since 2012. Four coronavirus infections have also been reported.
Saudi Arabia has been one of the most affected countries in the world by the virus.
Along with Saudi, cases of the virus have been reported in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Egypt and Oman.
Symptoms, which include persistent fever and cough, are similar to those associated with the SARS virus.
MERS, for which no known cure is available, destroys the lungs and kidneys. It is presumed that long-term physical contact with infected persons can lead to infection.
