BEIJING
A total of 11,989 people have lost their lives in China in the first nine months of this year due to infectious diseases, local media reported Friday.
According to state news agency Xinhua, figures from the country’s health authority showed there had been a 15 percent increase in the number of reported cases, while the death toll stood at one percent lower than of the same period last year.
The National Health and Family Planning Commission expressed its skepticism regarding the prevention of infectious diseases during the autumn and wintertime, warning local health authorities to increase measures against threatening illnesses such as dengue fever, measles and Ebola.
Dengue fever has killed six people in China as of Wednesday, with a total of 27,219 reported cases, according to Xinhua.
