ISTANBUL
The Israeli military said Saturday it launched airstrikes on sites tied to Iran’s nuclear and weapons production programs across three regions.
In a statement, the army said more than 50 Israeli Air Force fighter jets conducted coordinated strikes on Friday against what it described as infrastructure belonging to the Iranian regime.
According to the statement, the strikes were carried out in three waves over several hours, targeting key facilities associated with the nuclear program in the cities of Arak and Yazd, as well as weapons production sites.
It said that among the targets was the heavy water plant in Arak, which it described as a major site for producing plutonium used in nuclear weapons.
The army also said it struck a facility in Yazd that it claimed is used to produce explosive materials involved in the uranium enrichment process.
The strikes, according to the statement, also targeted a military industries facility used to manufacture various types of weapons, and a site affiliated with Iran’s Defense Ministry used to develop and produce advanced explosive devices.
The statement claimed that some of these sites are used to supply weapons to Hamas and Hezbollah. It also claimed that among the targets was a facility used to produce components for ballistic missiles and air defense systems.
There was no immediate comment from Iranian authorities on the claims.
