A drone crashed on an oil field in Iraq’s southern Basra province on Saturday and did not cause any damage or injuries, the Iraqi Defense Ministry said.

In a statement posted on the US-based platform X, the ministry said the drone fell at 8:30 a.m. local time (05:30 GMT) inside the Majnoon oil field in Al-Deir district, within the responsibility area of the 3rd Battalion, 9th Brigade of the Energy Police Directorate.

It added that the drone did not explode and caused no material damage or human casualties.

The ministry said forces at the site immediately notified Basra Operations Command and Al-Nashwa police station, after which engineering teams and explosive ordnance disposal units were dispatched to the scene to handle and remove the drone in accordance with established procedures.

Security authorities confirmed that they are continuing to monitor the situation and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of vital sites and protect workers.

On Friday, Iraq’s Oil Ministry announced that its staff is ready to restore production levels to normal in record time once the ongoing regional conflict ends.

A week earlier, Iraq said it had reduced oil output in Basra fields from 3.3 million barrels per day to 900,000 barrels per day amid the ongoing Israeli-US attacks on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory strikes.

The conflict has disrupted energy supplies, amid a sharp decline in shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with reports of hundreds of vessels accumulating on both sides of the strait due to rising security risks.
