Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Berlin on Wednesday to join a videoconference with European leaders and US President Donald Trump ahead of Trump's upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy and his delegation arrived by helicopter at the Federal Chancellery, where Chancellor Friedrich Merz greeted them warmly in the garden near the helipad. Following a brief photo opportunity, the two leaders proceeded to their bilateral meeting.

German officials said that following their meeting, Merz and Zelenskyy will first hold a virtual meeting with other European leaders at around 2 pm local time (1200GMT) to align their strategy.

This meeting will include heads of state and government from Ukraine's key supporters—France, the UK, Italy, Poland, and Finland—along with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The videoconference with US President Trump and Vice President JD Vance was scheduled for 3 pm local time (1300GMT), according to German government sources. They indicated that the meeting aims to establish common positions among Western allies before Trump's summit with Putin in Alaska on Friday.

Zelenskyy and European leaders were expected to seek firm assurances from US President Trump during the meeting that no agreements regarding Ukraine's future would be made at the Alaska summit without Kyiv's explicit consent.
