Zelenskyy says Azerbaijan condemns Russian strike on Kyiv embassy

ISTANBUL

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday he spoke with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who condemned Russia’s latest large-scale strike that damaged Azerbaijan’s embassy building in Kyiv.

Zelenskyy said on social media that “hundreds of drones and missiles” were launched at Ukraine overnight, causing casualties and widespread damage.

He added that Aliyev expressed condolences and “condemned this strike and emphasized that this is not the first time the Russians have targeted the embassy building and other sites linked to Azerbaijan”

“We also discussed our bilateral relations and the development of our partnership,” Zelenskyy said, describing cooperation with Baku as having a “green light across all areas.”

Earlier, Zelenskyy said that the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv was hit by debris from an Iskander missile targeting the city.

He reported that around 430 drones and 18 missiles, including ballistic and aeroballistic types, were used in the attack, damaging dozens of residential buildings in the capital and hitting multiple regions.

Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov also said 731 strikes hit 20 settlements, killing four people.

Russia, meanwhile, said that 216 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight across several regions and over the Black Sea.
