UK welcomes Trump's announcement of pause on plans to target Iran's energy infrastructure
'Any reports of productive talks are welcome,' says UK prime minister's spokesperson
LONDON
Britain on Monday welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement of a five-day postponement of all strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, saying a swift resolution to the war is in global interests.
"Any reports of productive talks are welcome," the BBC quoted Prime Minister Keir Starmer's official spokesperson as saying.
According to the spokesperson, the UK has always said that a swift resolution to the war is in the global interests. "The Strait of Hormuz specifically needs to be reopened."
Trump, on Monday, said he has ordered a five-day postponement of all strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, citing “very good and productive” talks with Tehran over the past two days.
"I am pleased to report that the United States of America and the country of Iran have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East," Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social.
US-Israeli strikes on Iran began on Feb. 28, with Tehran retaliating through repeated drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
