ANKARA

Türkiye announced Thursday that its Zurich mission is closely monitoring the condition of a Turkish child injured in a kindergarten attack in Switzerland.

"Our Consulate General in Zurich is in contact with the family and is closely monitoring the situation,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on X.

Aras’ condition is improving following the knife attack, said the ministry.

The ministry wished Aras a speedy recovery and expressed its best wishes to his family.

Aras, a five-year-old Turkish citizen, was one of three children injured by a 23-year-old man during the knife attack on kindergarten students in Zurich's Oerlikon neighborhood on Tuesday.

An after-school care worker was walking with several kindergarten children when the man attacked them with a knife in Berninastrasse, Zurich city police said, adding that the care worker reacted quickly, overpowering the attacker with the help of another man and handing him over to emergency services.
