Mihai Popsoi takes oath as Moldova’s new foreign minister

ISTANBUL

Moldova’s new Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi on Monday took oath of office in a ceremony held in the capital Chisinau.

A statement from the Moldovan presidency said that Popsoi stood out for his “intense activity on the platform of parliamentary diplomacy and made an essential contribution to strengthening the support and trust of foreign partners.”


According to the statement, President Maia Sandu reiterated the primary goal of the country’s foreign policy officials continued to be Moldova’s accession to the EU.

In a separate statement on X, Sandu said: “His (Popsoi) commitment to diplomacy and dedication to Moldova’s interests make him a valuable asset to our team as we navigate the path towards EU membership.”

Last Wednesday, Moldova’s former Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu announced his resignation from his post, as well as from his position as deputy prime minister, effective as of Jan. 29.
