Hungary is not willing to send weapons, soldiers to Ukraine: Foreign minister Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto

BELGRADE, Serbia

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday that his country is not willing to send weapons or soldiers to Ukraine.

“We hear and see the news about the Paris meeting last night. Hungary's position is clear and rock-solid: We are not willing to send either weapons or soldiers to Ukraine,” Szijjarto said on Facebook.

“The war should not be deepened and widened, but ended,” he added.

Earlier, Szijjarto arrived in the Czech Republic for the prime ministers' meeting of the Visegrad Group, a cultural and political alliance of four Central European countries.

He said there would be a great need for close cooperation between the four members of the Visegrad Group.

"The V4 (Visegrad Group) has historical merits, and if you look at the current European processes, there will be a great need for close Central European cooperation to prevent a series of dangerous Brussels decisions,” Szijjarto said.

He added that they have different opinions on the European response strategy to the Ukraine war and the question of peace.

“Only together we can prevent the compulsory distribution of illegal migrants, the flow of cheap Ukrainian grain that is destroying our farmers, tax harmonization that seeks to impose tax increases that could destroy our competitiveness and ideological discrimination against nuclear energy," said Szijjarto.

V4 is a political alliance of four Central European countries – Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland. All of them are EU members and NATO allies.
