Hungarian premier announces large business delegation visit to Russia
Viktor Orban says Hungary and Russia are discussing how strategic and economic cooperation will work after Europe lifts its sanctions on Moscow
MOSCOW
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Saturday announced a visit by a large business delegation to Russia.
"A huge business delegation will be traveling to Moscow in early December exclusively to discuss economic issues," Orban told M1 TV during an event in central Hungary.
According to the premier, Hungary is negotiating with Russia over how strategic and economic cooperation will be structured once the Ukraine-related sanctions on the country are lifted.
At the end of November, a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Orban lasting nearly four hours took place in Moscow.
The leaders discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Ukraine. Orban called the summit "successful" and urged the rapid start of high-level negotiations between Russia and Europe.
Since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022, the West has put more and more economic pressure on Moscow in the form of 19 packages of sanctions.
Russia has repeatedly said it considers such unilateral actions illegal and opposes them, and recently called them “a double-edged sword.”
