In the wake of Israel’s attacks on Iran, France is ready to work with other countries to push for de-escalation in the Mideast, said the nation’s president on Friday.

“France stands ready to work with all its partners to push for de-escalation in the Near and Middle East,” Emmanuel Macron said on X as tensions soared across the region.

He reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defense amid growing international concern.

“France has repeatedly condemned Iran’s ongoing nuclear program and has taken all appropriate diplomatic measures in response. In this context, France reaffirms Israel’s right to defend itself and ensure its security,” he said.

To prevent further escalation, Macron called on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint” and protect regional stability.

He said he had convened France’s National Defense and Security Council earlier on Friday, stressing that "all necessary steps will be taken to protect our nationals and our diplomatic and military missions in the region."

"All measures will also be implemented to ensure the protection of our national territory and our fellow citizens," he added.

Macron also said he had held talks with several key international leaders including the Saudi crown prince, the king of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates president, the emir of Qatar, the German chancellor, the British prime minister, and the US president.

“Peace and security for all in the region must remain our guiding principle,” he said.

Israel early Friday launched a sweeping military operation against Iran, with 200 planes targeting the country’s nuclear program and long-range missile capabilities.

Several senior military officials and nuclear scientists were also killed in the attack.
