The Dutch foreign minister summoned Israel’s ambassador following an Israeli attack on a convoy of ambulances in Gaza that killed 15 aid workers.

Caspar Veldkamp summoned Modi Ephraim to "provide clarification on recent events and developments in the Gaza Strip," the NL Times website reported Tuesday.

Veldkamp also notified parliament on the development in a letter, saying the ambassador is expected to attend a meeting at the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

Last week, the Dutch Cabinet condemned the deadly Israeli attack last month on the ambulance convoy.

Israeli forces opened fire on the convoy near Rafah in southern Gaza on March 23, killing the emergency workers.

Israel originally claimed that its troops opened fire because the convoy approached "suspiciously" in darkness without headlights or flashing lights.

But mobile phone footage filmed by one of the paramedics who was killed showed the vehicles did have lights on as they answered a call to assist wounded people.

More than 50,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a brutal Israeli onslaught since October 2023, most of them women and children.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
