Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met Friday with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who was in Baku to attend the 10th Meeting of the Azerbaijan-Georgia Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission.
Speaking at a news conference following the meeting, Aliyev underlined the strong relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, emphasizing their successful development in all fields.
Aliyev described the political ties between the two countries as exemplary for the region and noted Azerbaijan’s $3.6 billion investment in Georgia’s economy.
Highlighting the importance of energy cooperation, Aliyev said: “The oil and natural gas projects we have implemented together form the backbone of energy security for many countries."
Azerbaijan exports natural gas to 11 countries through Georgia, with exports increasing yearly, Aliyev stressed.
"Last year, we exported 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas, with 10% going to Georgia. Over 80% of Georgia’s natural gas consumption is supplied by Azerbaijan. As new gas fields become operational this year, our natural gas exports will continue to grow,” he added.
Aliyev discussed the significance of the Middle Corridor initiative, stating: “This project spans a vast geography, and Georgia and Azerbaijan play a crucial role as a bridge between Europe and Asia.”
Congratulating the Georgian Dream Party on its recent electoral victory, Aliyev added: “Your party’s success is vital for ensuring stability in the South Caucasus. As your friends and brothers, we take great pride in this achievement.”
'Azerbaijan Is a reliable partner, brotherly nation'
Kobakhidze expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support and stressed the strategic partnership between the two nations, which he said is rooted in historical ties of friendship.
He reaffirmed Georgia’s support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, stating: “Peace, stability, and security in the South Caucasus are of utmost importance."
"We are ready to make every effort to ensure this stability. It is critical that we continue to collaborate on existing projects and identify new opportunities,” he said.
The Georgian premier hailed joint projects undertaken by the two countries, adding: “Azerbaijan is not only a valuable friend but also a reliable partner and a brotherly nation."
"Deepening these ties is in our shared interest, and we place great importance on these relations,” he added.
