Kazakhstan started to send natural gas to China on Monday, according to the country's national gas company, KazTransGas.
Kazakhstan and China signed an agreement on Oct. 3 to supply 5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of Kazakhstani natural gas over a calendar year. The National Operator, KazTransGas, expects export revenue of approximately $1 billion.
According to the agreement, natural gas will come from the fields in West Kazakhstan, as well as from the underground natural gas storage facilities of KazTransGas.
"We have 10 bcm capacity to supply and send natural gas to China," Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev was quoted as saying.
