Türkiye's natural gas imports increased by 22.8% in May, compared to the same month in 2024, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Monday.
Natural gas imports in May totaled 3.53 billion cubic meters (bcm), up from approximately 2.88 bcm last year, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
In May, 3.16 bcm of imports were made through pipelines and 377 million cubic meters (mcm) were imported via liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The highest volume of pipeline gas imports came from Russia, totaling 1.19 bcm meters. This was followed by 1.05 bcm from Azerbaijan, 791 mcm from Iran and 120 mcm from Turkmenistan.
During this period, LNG imports amounted to 281 mcm from Algeria and 96 mcm from the US.
- Gas consumption up 28%
The country's total gas consumption increased to 4.08 bcm in May, up by 28% compared to the same period in May 2024.
Household consumption rose by 75.7% to 1.49 bcm, while gas consumption in the industrial sector rose by 4.2% to 1.13 bcm.
In power plants, natural gas consumption increased by 16.4% to 737 mcm, during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in May declined by 20.2% to around 2.94 bcm, compared to 3.68 bcm last year.
