Türkiye's natural gas imports increased by 69.5% in April, compared to the same month in 2024, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Friday.
Natural gas imports in April totaled 4.06 billion cubic meters (bcm), up from approximately 2.39 bcm last year, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
In April, 3.65 bcm of imports were made through pipelines and 404 million cubic meters (mcm) were imported via liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The highest volume of pipeline gas imports came from Russia, totaling 1.81 bcm meters. This was followed by 999 mcm from Azerbaijan, 706 mcm from Iran and 129 mcm from Turkmenistan.
During this period, LNG imports amounted to 304 mcm from Algeria and 99 mcm from the US.
- Gas consumption up 26.9%
The country's total gas consumption increased to 5.18 bcm in April, up by 26.9% compared to the same period in April 2024.
Household consumption rose by 21% to 3.37 bcm, while gas consumption in the industrial sector rose by 13.7% to 1.13 bcm.
In power plants, natural gas consumption increased by 87.6% to 757 mcm, during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in April declined by 35.1% to around 2.50 bcm, compared to 3.85 bcm last year.
