Turkey's energy import bill falls 7.4% in December 2019

Turkey's energy import bill decreased by 7.4% to $3.63 billion in December last year compared to the same month of 2018, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Friday.

The data shows that Turkey's overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $19.02 billion in December, with energy accounting for 19.08% of the overall import figures.

Although the overall energy import bill fell last month, the country increased its crude oil purchases.

The country's crude oil imports showed a nearly 22% rise over the same period compared to December 2018.

Turkey imported approximately 2.57 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 2.11 million tons during December 2018.
