The Volkswagen Group reported Monday that its global deliveries reached 2.05 million vehicles between January and March, marking a 4% decrease compared to the 2.13 million vehicles sold in the same period last year.
Marco Schubert, sales official at Volkswagen Group, stated that highly challenging economic and geopolitical conditions shaped the first quarter of the year.
Schubert explained that the worldwide automotive market experienced a general decline through the end of March.
He added that the company largely maintained its global market share despite the overall downturn.
The automaker recorded growth of 7% in the South America region, 4% in the Western Europe region, and 8% in the Central and Eastern Europe region.
These regional gains partially offset significant delivery drops in the China and US markets, which declined by 15% and 13% respectively.
The company delivered 200,000 battery electric vehicles worldwide through the end of March, representing an 8% drop from the previous year.
