Polish culture minister says country should not take part in Eurovision if Israel is allowed

ISTANBUL

Poland should sit out next year’s Eurovision if Israel is allowed to, the country’s culture and national heritage minister said Sunday.

Speaking to Polish Tok FM radio, Marta Cienkowska responded to a question on the issue by saying: “I think we should not take part in Eurovision if Israel participates.” She underlined that her statement reflects her personal view, “not as a (government) minister, but as a human being.”

“I follow developments in that region with great sadness. In this context, it is very difficult to enjoy Eurovision,” she added.

The number of countries declaring that they will not participate in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, or will reconsider their participation if Israel is allowed to compete, is steadily rising.

Public broadcasters in several countries have announced boycotts, citing Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza.

Ireland, Slovenia, and the Netherlands have already stated clearly that they will not take part in the competition if Israel is accepted, while Iceland, Belgium, and Spain have signaled they may take similar steps.
