The 13th Boston Turkish Film Festival will take place on Thursday, March 20 through April 26 at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
The festival, which highlights independent films by Turkish directors, will feature 20 films as well as show some documentaries and short films.
According to the festival administrator Erkut Gomullu, the festival committee plans to celebrate 100 years of Turkish cinema. The latest film festival received a very positive response from the audience at the end of each screening and interest in Turkish films is growing since the festival began.
The festival will start with the screening of award-winning Turkish film “Jin,” by director Reha Erdem. The film about a 17-year-old girl who survives in a treacherous forest will screen March 20 at 7.30 pm. The animals in the woods observe her suffering. “They are witness to the savagery and pain through their stares, their bearing, and their wounds,’’ writes Erdem in his director’s statement.
Other notable films in this year’s festival include “ Tales of Intransigence” (İnat Hikayeleri) and “Film Against All Odds” (İnadına Film Çekmek) by Reis Celik while “The Butterfly’s Dream” (Kelebeğin Rüyası) by Yılmaz Erdogan, “Cycle” (Devir) by Dervis Zaim, “Thou Gild’st the Even” (Sen Aydınlatırsın Geceyi) by Onur Unlu, “Cold” and “My World” by Ugur Yucel, “Meryem” by Atalay Tasdiken, “Yozgat Blues” by Mahmut Fazıl Coskun, “Somewhere in Between” (Araf) by Yesim Ustaoglu, “Are we OK?” (Tamam mıyız?) by Cagan Irmak, “Govern- Mum 2” (Hükümet Kadın) by Sermiyan Midyat, “Your Story” (Senin Hikayen) by Tolga Ornek, “One Day or Another” (El Yazısı) by Ali Vatansever and “Happy Family Journal” by Nihat Durak.
The committee also announced that the 2014 Boston Turkish Film Festival Award for Excellence in Turkish Cinema is acclaimed director Reis Celik and the festival will pay tribute to the legendary Turkish actor Tuncel Kurtiz, who passed away in 2013.
The Boston Turkish Film Festival is run in cooperation with a U.S. fine arts museum.
