It is special to play in Istanbul: Ryu Goto

It is special to play in Istanbul and an honor to contribute to a cultural cause, internationally renowned violinist Ryu Goto said on Wednesday.

The Japanese violinist came to Turkey to play in support of the Geyre Foundation, whose mission is to support excavation works in the ancient Greek city of Aphrodisias, now part of modern Turkey.

“It is an honor to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause,” Goto said during a press meeting.

Praising Istanbul as “the most multicultural city in the world, having a combination of the Middle East, Asia and Europe all in one packet,” he added that it is very special for him to play in this “unique city.”

Ryu Goto will perform a concert on Thursday with the Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra.

Goto has established himself as a significant voice in classical music, with a large and growing public in Asia, North America and Europe. His career began at age seven when he made his debut at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan. He has since appeared as a soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras.
