French actress wins damages over 'affair' photos

A Paris court has ordered a French magazine to pay 15,000 euros (US$21,000) in damages to actress Julie Gayet over claims she had an affair with the country’s president, Francois Hollande.

The ruled that Closer magazine has to pay damages to Gayet for an "invasion of privacy".

In January Closer published a series of photos about Gayet’s relationship with Hollande. The president’s relationship with his partner, journalist Valerie Trierweiler, subsequently broke down.  

Hollande (59) has refused to comment on his private life or the nature of his relationship with Gayet.

The photographs showed Hollande and the actress arriving separately at a Paris apartment for alleged trysts.

The magazine was also ordered to publish details of the court ruling on the front page of its next issue.

Gayet had been seeking damages of 50,000 euros.
