A technical glitch at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in New Delhi, India's capital, disrupted hundreds of flights at South Asia's busiest airport on Friday.

“Flight operations at Delhi Airport has been disrupted due to an ongoing technical issue with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) that supports Air Traffic Control flight planning process,” the Delhi Airport wrote on US social media company X on Friday evening.

It said all “airline operations at Delhi Airport are currently impacted. Concerned authorities are working on resolving the issue at the earliest.”

More than 800 domestic and international flights were delayed on Friday, the Press Trust of India reported, citing sources.

Airports Authority of India said: “Technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest.”

“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all passengers and stakeholders,” it said.

Several airline operators posted on X about the impact due to the glitch.

“Flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently affected due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. This disruption is impacting flights across Delhi and several northern regions,” India’s SpiceJet said on X.

A similar message was put out by other Indian airline operators.
