Taiwanese leader Lai shuffles Cabinet after opposition lawmakers defeat recall vote
Development comes as Lai administration attempts to reverse recent political setbacks

ISTANBUL
Taiwanese leader Lai Ching-te unveiled a reshuffling of the Cabinet on Wednesday involving 16 officials across 10 government agencies after opposition lawmakers defeated a recall vote, Focus Taiwan reported.
The Lai administration is attempting to reverse a series of recent political setbacks, including failed recall campaigns and declining approval ratings.
Taiwanese voters rejected recall attempts against opposition lawmakers. The 31 Kuomintang (KMT) legislators defeated recall challenges, which could have ended their legislative term mid-way.
Premier Cho Jung-tai is scheduled to chair the new Cabinet at a public appearance following Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, the Executive Yuan said in a statement Wednesday.
As part of the reshuffle, Executive Yuan Secretary-General Kung Ming-hsin will replace Kuo Jyh-huei as minister of economic affairs, while Kung’s position will be filled by Xavier Chang, currently deputy secretary-general at the presidential office.
Yeh Chun-hsien is set to become the new National Development Council minister, while Lin Yi-jing will become the new digital affairs minister.
Separately, National Health Insurance Administration Director-General Shih Chung-liang will become the new health minister while Olympic badminton gold medalist Lee Yang will head the Sports Ministry.
