South Korea raids intelligence, military sites over alleged drone flights to North Korea
Investigation follows Pyongyang’s claims of airspace violations and presidential order to probe incursions
ISTANBUL
South Korean authorities raided key intelligence and military facilities Tuesday as part of a widening investigation into alleged drone flights into North Korea, amid heightened tensions between the two Koreas, local media reported.
A joint task force comprising police and military investigators executed search-and-seizure warrants at the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Defense Intelligence Command, and at least 16 other locations, according to Yonhap News, citing officials.
The inquiry was launched last month after North Korea accused Seoul of violating its sovereignty through drone incursions allegedly detected in September and again on Jan. 4.
Pyongyang condemned the alleged flights, calling them “another grave infringement upon the sovereignty of North Korea.”
Following the accusations, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung ordered an investigation into the alleged drone incursions into North Korea.
