Police arrest 7 in Sydney on suspicion of 'plans of a violent act'
No connection to any current police investigation into Bondi terror attack, say police
ISTANBUL
Australian police on Thursday arrested seven men in Sydney on suspicion of "a violent act possibly being planned."
Police said they had received information that "a violent act was possibly being planned," but that they had found no connection to the current police investigation into the Bondi terrorist attack, according to 9 News.
Police wearing camouflage fatigues and body armor, armed with long guns, are seen arresting, searching, and handcuffing the men on video posted on social media. The men's car appeared to have been intercepted and rammed.
One of the arrested men was also seen on a stretcher, with his face bloodied and his head bandaged.
"Tactical Operations police responded to information received that a violent act was possibly being planned," New South Wales Police said in a statement.
"As investigations continue, seven men are assisting police with their inquiries," it added.
Earlier on Sunday evening, a man and his son opened fire on a beach in Sydney, killing 15 people and injuring 42 others. Police described the incident as a "terrorist attack."
One of the two shooters was killed, while the other was critically injured and is being treated in a hospital.
