Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on a three-day official visit on Sunday, a statement from his office said.

Sharif was received by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. He was escorted to his residence, where he was welcomed by his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim.

The two leaders will hold talks and are also expected to witness the signing of agreements on trade, information technology, telecommunication, energy, infrastructure and digital economy.

"Greatly looking forward to a comprehensive exchange of views on our common desire to enhance trade and economic engagement as well as bilateral cooperation in various fields. Important global and regional matters will also be discussed," Sharif said in a post on the US social media company X before departing for Kuala Lumpur. "Pakistan Malaysia ties will continue to flourish."

Anwar, in a post on X, said various agendas have been arranged during this visit to explore new potential areas of cooperation including trade and investment, the Halal industry, education, tourism and defense for the mutual benefit of the people of Malaysia and Pakistan.

Pakistan and Malaysia established diplomatic ties in 1957.

Both countries had a bilateral trade volume of $1.5 billion in 2024. Malaysia mainly exports palm oil, petroleum gas and margarine to Pakistan, whereas Islamabad exports rice, corn, textiles and vegetable products to Kuala Lumpur.
