North Korean leader urges military industry to expand multiple rocket launcher production
Multiple rocket system to be 'main strike means of the Korean People's Army,' says Kim Jong Un
ISTANBUL
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has instructed officials to expand the production of artillery weapon systems, including multiple rocket launchers.
He issued the directive during a visit to a major military-industrial enterprise over the weekend, state media reported Tuesday.
Kim said the multiple rocket system, which will be the “main strike means" of the Korean People's Army, would "completely change" the composition of the artillery force and “play a pivotal role” in Pyongyang’s “military strategic policy on modernizing and reinforcing long-range artillery,” according to the Korean Central News Agency.
The weapon system, which will be deployed in large quantities for concentrated attacks during military operations, is a “super-powerful weapon system, as it can annihilate the enemy through sudden precise strikes with high accuracy and devastating power and can also be used as a strategic attack means," he added.
Kim said munitions production goals will be set forth at the ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea.
