Chinese President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that "aspirations and challenges" inspire China to "seize every moment and persevere with unwavering vigor."

"Achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unprecedented cause," Xi said at a reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of China’s founding, the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.

The National Day of the People's Republic of China is observed on Oct. 1.

"Amid a complex situation this year," China advanced and achieved enhanced reform and high-quality development, as well as "full and rigorous" communist party self-governance, Xi said.

He stressed the importance of working to "unswervingly implement the 'one country, two systems' policy and support the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions."

He also expressed Beijing's "resolute opposition to 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities and external interference" while urging further efforts for enhanced exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait.

Considering the rapid global changes unseen in a century, "we must practice true multilateralism, promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative and work with other countries to build a community with a shared future for humanity," he said.

Xi said Monday that "religions in China can only be passed down healthily by always having their roots in the Chinese culture, and required efforts to promote the integration of religions with fine traditional Chinese culture," at a group study session of the Politburo of the Communist Party’s Central Committee.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the party has "put forward a series of new ideas and measures, including the principle that religions in China must be Chinese in orientation," Xi said, adding that these efforts have achieved religious work in the new era.

Xi urged to "guide religious figures and believers to develop an accurate understanding of country, history, ethnicity, culture and religion."
